What's the Difference Between DevOps and SRE? (class SRE implements DevOps)

DevOps Vs. SRE: Competing Standards or Friends?

Google has been practicing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) since the early 2000’s but only recently began speaking about it publicly. Some have called SRE “DevOps 2.0,” while others view it as a competing standard. Is SRE the new DevOps? Or is SRE something only large companies can benefit from?

Getting Started with SRE

Stephen Thorne is a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Google. He learned how to be a SRE on the team running Google's advertiser and publisher user interfaces. Stephen went on to work on the challenge of Google App Engine as it grew rapidly and broke scaling barriers. Before Google, Stephen fought against spam and viruses in his home country of Australia, where he also gained his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Now he works to integrate Google's Cloud customer's operations with Google SRE and in his role in Customer Reliability Engineering.

Liz Fong-Jones and Seth Vargo are back again with 8 minutes of action-packed SRE and DevOps education. This video discusses building blocks of the DevOps and SRE practice of measurement: Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and Service Level Agreements.
